Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is finally introducing an ‘Undo Send’ option for emails on the web version of Gmail.
The new option will be found in the main settings of the web service where it can be enabled or disabled manually and depending on user preference. The company introduced the Undo Send option to Gmail in March 2009. Since then, the feature has been more like an experiment at Google Labs and has been tested for quite some time. It was also available to users, but they would have had to go through various steps to acquire it.
Undo send is a useful tool because it identifies that users accidentally send mail without confirming the content. Most times, this can be devastating and therefore providing such a feature is very strategic. The feature gives a brief window of time before actually sending emails. This window of time means the sender can cancel the sending through the Undo Send option. The timeframe before sending is between 5 to 30 seconds depending on what option the user has selected in the settings.
The ‘Undo send’ feature will be very significant in avoiding trouble especially in cases where the email being sent has been written in an inappropriate manner or has errors. Emails can also be sent to the wrong person, thus the feature presents itself on a significant scale.
The company introduced the feature to the new email management feature known as ‘Inbox’ a month ago. Inbox is optimized for mobile devices. It seems Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has decided that the feature is one that needs to be in the hands of more users rather than a few users having access.
Gmail services were initiated more than a decade ago. So far, Gmail is the most common and most preferred email service. Currently, there are more than 900 million people using Gmail from all corners of the world.
