Boston, MA 02/06/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Amazon.com, Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) has now secured the exclusive subscription and VOD rights to “The Americans”, FX’s Cold War era spy-thriller, in addition to non-exclusive rights to the series, “How I Met Your Mother” as well as other programming, via a deal with 21st Century Fox. Amazon.com, Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) is looking at stockpiling more popular content for the company’s Prime Instant Video-service and is giving Netflix a run for its money and popularity. With effect from 6 February, “The Americans” is available to all Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) Prime customers. On 26 February, the “The Americans,” Season 2 is slated to debut on FX and it will be starring Keri Russell as well as Matthew Rhys. This deal was announced by Chase Carey, the COO of 21st Century Fox.

Apart from “The Americans”, In March, Amazon Prime customers will have instant access to 5 more series- “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” 20th Century Fox Television’s first 8 seasons of “How I Met Your Mother”, “Archer “,“The League”, and “Louie” All of these series will be aired via non-exclusive deals. “The Americans,” was selected as 1 of AFI’s top -10 Television series for 2013. It has an early-1980’s setting and the story revolves around a couple of KGB spies who are posing as a married couple and are in area of Washington, D.C.
Other pilots
On Thursday, separately, Amazon.com, Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) launched 10 pilots. These included “The After”, the supernatural thriller by Chris Carter and “Bosch,” the cop drama that has been written by Michael Connelly and Eric Overmyer, in the company’s 2nd wave of pilots. The Amazon studio will be making use of viewer feedback to decide which of these shows can be greenlighted as full series. Eventually, these picked shows will be available to Amazon prime members. This is the company’s free-shipping program and includes unlimited access to various streaming video titles. This service is in direct competition with Netflix but that is not stopping the company from consistently adding licensed content to its service. Amazon.com, Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) has exclusive pacts for NBC’s “Hannibal”, PBS’s “Downtown Abbey,” and “Veronica Mars” the Time Warner Inc (NYSE:TWX)’s TV series, amongst other shows.
