Boston, MA 10/16/2013 (wallstreetpr) – The Boeing Company (NYSE:BA) has taken the responsibility along with Oracle team USA to recycle around 7000 pounds of carbon fiber of the USA-71. Built in the year 2003 for America’s Cup campaign, USA-71 yacht’s hull and mast will be processed and recycled by the partners, an effort to recycle the largest carbon structure for the first time in history.
The Boeing Company and the Oracle team USA are planning to use a new technique designed by the Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner to recycle this huge amount of carbon fiber. The 787 Dreamliner by Boeing is 20% more fuel efficient and 50% more composite by weight as compared to all other aircrafts of the same size. The composite size of the aircraft gives it a simpler and lighter structure and also increases the fuel efficiency and its life span. In addition to this, the composite construction of the yachts also provides them the ability to get a lighter vessel with more strength and stiffness.
According to Chris Sitzenstock, head of Oracle team USA logistics, the overture of composite materials in the yacht construction was one of the biggest steps taken by the company that has offered them the ability to work with the Boeing Company to take further steps in the composite recycling to make our environment better. He also added that the company is planning to recycle the remaining carbon fibers resulting from the building of the yachts.
To this, Billy Glover, Vice president of Boeing Commercial Airplanes market strategy, also shared their pleasure to work with Oracle team USA to recycle composite materials from USA-71. He said that the Boeing Company and Oracle team USA will together strive to transform the science of sailing and add strength to the science of composite recycling
