Macy’s, Inc. (NYSE:M) Have Decided To Open On Thanksgiving For The First Time

Boston, MA 10/16/2013 (wallstreetpr) – Flouting its folklore of so many years, finally Macy’s, Inc. (NYSE:M) has decided to open most of its retail stores for the very first time on the day of Thanksgiving. This decision of the company was publicized in a release on Monday that said that the company is prepared to open all its major stores on Thanksgiving i.e. Thursday at 8 p.m. and the doors will stay open for straight 24 hours until the close of the business on black Friday, at about 10 p.m. The reason for this change in custom was cited as the increasing demand of the customers.

The increasing pressures from Macy’s competitors and various online merchants who are pushing attractive deals on the holiday to grab more shoppers have caused the company to change its decision. All the major stores in the U.S. including Wal-Mart, Target, and Meijer are opening their stores on the Thanksgiving and offering striking deals to grab bargain-hungry customers and Macy’s does not want to be left behind in this race and hence will stay open on the day and make good sales.

According to Macy’s that operates around 800 stores, planned this change very early this year to give ample time to all its employees to review available shifts and volunteer for preferable shifts for uninterrupted running of the stores during the holiday season including Thanksgiving. Out of 800, around 750 stores will open their doors for customers at 8pm this Thanksgiving.
