Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) has joined hands with the budget airline JetBlue Airways Corporation (NASDAQ:JBLU) to offer free video streaming services. It is part of the in-flight entertainment for the customers on JetBlue flights.
As per the terms of the agreement, JetBlue will enable Amazon’s free Instant Video Services through its WiFi service called “Fly-Fi”.
To utilize free video streaming services of Amazon, passengers need to have a mobile phone, laptop or tablet. However, the video streaming service will not be integrated into the back panel of each seat.
It is an exciting event for the customers to select favorite videos from thousands of video titles and watch while flying on JetBlue. Passengers are also allowed downloading of Amazon video content for viewing later in offline mode.
Amazon will broadcast promotional scenes as part of the free video content onboard to generate revenues.
Many airlines worldwide have started offering free WiFi service to the customers onboard. However, the airlines restrict access to the channels like YouTube, HBOGo and Netflix because of high bandwidth requirement.
Like other airlines, JetBlue has started offering access to the streaming video services on chargeable basis. However, JetBlue offers free video streaming services for Prime Subscribers on its flights.
But Prime Instant Video subscribers will get access to few movies and TV shows only. They will not be able to enjoy watching latest Hollywood movies.
Good news for customers onboard JetBlue Flights
Passengers can now enjoy latest Hollywood movies on a rental basis through Amazon on-demand Instant Video Services. Customers can also purchase latest Hollywood movies onboard through Free WiFi option of JetBlue.
Prime subscribers can also choose their favorite music from a million songs. Amazon Music Service also facilitates the purchase and downloading of titles to their devices. Customers can also earn True Blue loyalty points through buying Amazon music or accessing eBooks from its Kindle store.
JetBlue Airways Corporation (NASDAQ:JBLU) embraces satellites offer high-speed WiFi Internet. Amazon will introduce video streaming services initially on Airbus A320 and A321 flights this year.
