Boston, MA, 11/18/2013 (wallstreetpr) – GoogleInc (NASDAQ:GOOG), the world’s biggest Search engine and PC maker Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HPQ),have suspended the sales of HP Chromebook 11 after the reports emerged that some chargers are getting damaged due to overheating. Chromebooks are the laptops from HP which are powered by the Google’s Chrome OS. HP’s Chromebook 11 was launched worldwide during the last month keeping in view the demand of the forthcoming holidays. Today, through the official Chrome blog, Caesar Sengupta, Google’s Vice-President for its Product Management team, said that Google and HP are halting sales of the HP chromebook at the Google’s Play Store Best Buy Co.,Amazon and other outlets, after the damage of the Chromebook chargers were reported by some of its users. The cause of the damage has been indicated as overheating, though there were no reports of fire as such.
Sengupta further added that in the meanwhile, the existing users of the HP Chromebook 11 have been advised to not to use the original charger which came along with the product. HP Chrome books which were launched last month are priced around $299 in the US. Google said that it is working at its best to resolve the problem. Sengupta said that their team” is working with the Consumer Product Safety Commission to ascertain the suitable corrective action and any additional information or instruction will be updated to the consumers soon.He further suggested that for the time being, the existing HP Chromebook 11 could be charged with any other Underwriters Laboratories-listed micro-USB charger, like the one provided with the Tablet or Smartphone.
Overheating has been a common problem among the PC makers in the past as well. In the year 2006, Dell Inc. and Apple Inc. had to recall their Sony Corp. manufactured laptop batteries post overheating complaints. Toshiba, International Business Machines Corp (IBM), Fujitsu Ltd and Lenovo are also among the computer makers who have not remained untouched with this issue.
