Honeywell International Inc. (NYSE:HON) Overcome Another Landmark

Boston, MA 10/14/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Honeywell International Inc. (NYSE:HON) and United Technologies Corporation (NYSE: UTX)’ Pratt & Whitney developed engines through its joint venture unit – The Advanced Turbine Engine Company (ATEC), LLC.

HPW3000 engine – an energy efficient solution

Recently, the ATEC completed the second test of the HPW3000 engine. The engine designs to replace the existing engines of Black Hawk and Apache helicopters, which comprises of ~75% of the U.S. Army’s fleet.

HPW3000 engines primarily designs to improve the performance and protection for soldiers. It will also offer energy-efficient solutions than the current engines and save fuel, support and maintenance costs for the government.

The development of the engine is one the initiatives of the Advanced Affordable Turbine Engine (AATE) Science and Technology program of the Army Aviation Applied Technology Directorate (AATD).

The AATE’s follow-on program, Improved Turbine Engine Program (ITEP), aims to evaluate the engine performance in the helicopters (Black Hawk and Apache). The engine increases the power performance by 50% and improves the fuel efficiency by 25% and also reduces the associated costs.

The two spool architecture of the engine will improve the durability and performance of the engine and retain the modular maintainability and save the fuel as said by Jerry Wheeler, VP, ATEC. He added that HPW3000 designed to meet the requirement of Black Hawk and Apache and also to support future needs the Army’s rotorcraft propulsion.

Meet the Army’s need

ATEC’s President, Craig Madden said that the engine completed the second test successfully. The company believes that HPW3000 will meet the expectation and anticipates in addressing the current and future needs of the U.S. Army.

Madden also added that the engine will save up to $1 billion of cost that incurred from the current engines. The Army will benefit from the application of the engine that will increase their capability and flexibility at a lower cost.
