Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Revamps Downloads As Notification Center Cards In Chrome OS Beta Release

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is making minor adjustments particularly downloads feature that will be in the new Chrome OS release. The new changes will be available or Chrome OS devices such as Chromebooks.

Google has decided to scrape away the old progress bar that is usually on the bottom part of Chrome. The progress bar was available in the old versions of the operating system. The downloads status will now appear as notification cards at the bottom right corner of Chrome devices with the new operating system

The changes are available in the Chrome OS beta. Users can access the changes by manually turning on them on via the flag “chrome//flags/#enable-download-notification”. Here they can choose the “Download Status in Notification Center Chrome OS.” The new changes bring some more convenience to the operating system. For example, users will no longer have to click anywhere to remove the progress notification bar.

ChromeStory also revealed that users can users can press pause or cancel once the download status appears. There is also the option of accessing the downloaded file by opening it in the notification center. Just like downloads on Windows operating systems, the downloaded file prompt opens the folder where the downloaded file is located.

According to the Chrome developer who came up with the ideas in January, they had initially planned for the new changes to be exclusive to ChromeOS. This would mean that the new features would not work on non-chrome devices. They would therefore not be compatible with devices that operate on Windows or Mac devices.

However, the developers are working to make adjustments so that the new features will be available in alternative devices that can run Chrome. It is also in line with Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s plans to make its services available across multiple platforms. The new downloads feature will be more advantageous than the previous one because it will not cause as much distraction when the download process is ongoing.
