Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is at it again, this time with a deal with social media giant, Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), to introduce a comedy series on to the social media platform.
“Catastrophe is an upcoming British comedy. It is supposed to make its debut on June 15th, but it will not be available on Amazon Prime. Amazon has instead planned to post the 30-minutes first episode on its Facebook page instead of taking it to its video streaming platform. Sources revealed that the episode will be available for free on the social network.
Viewers in the country will therefore get exclusive access for 48 hours from Monday. It will start airing from 7pm Eastern time. This is the first time Amazon has decided to use such an Approach. The idea is to allow users free access so that they can promote the popularity of the series. Additionally it is an opportunity for the company to collect feedback from the comment section once the viewers watch the series.
The comments will allow Amazon to determine whether the series is a good venture that will be successful in the future. Amazon acquired the rights to air the series in the United States shortly after the series made its debut in the UK on Channel 4.
The series is about an American man who impregnates an Irish woman, then moves to London to live with her and their child. Rob Delaney stars as the lead character while Sharon Horgan plays the character of the pregnant woman.
Ater making it freely available for the 48 hours, Amazon will then make the series exclusively available on Prime Instant. Prime subscribers can gain access to a few more episodes of the series from June 19.
The move has been described as a clever strategy by Amazon.Com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN). The company usually spends a lot of money on new content. Making the first episode free and available on a social network is a great way to determine whether a series will be a hit or a miss. This way the company makes sure it saves money by determining what to air or produce based on the findings from the responses.
