Good news for android users from Blackberry Inc (NASDAQ:BBRY)

Boston, MA 05/15/2013 (wallstreetpr) – The announcement of BlackBerry Inc. (NASDAQ:BBRY) to introduce its instant messaging service BBM Messaging in other smart phones as free application resulted in decline in share prices. The waterloo, Ontario based BlackBerry Inc. (NASDAQ:BBRY) which had climbed 28 percent this year had dropped by 4 percent, the biggest one day drop since May 07.

Announcement of instant messaging

BlackBerry Inc. (NASDAQ:BBRY) had announced to introduce its BBM Messaging service as free application for Apple’s iPhones and Google’s Android based smart phones. The application would be initially available as text only messaging service and voice features would be added soon to the instant messaging service.

However, analysts are skeptic on the success of this move by BlackBerry Inc. (NASDAQ:BBRY). Though the expansion would result in increasing the reach of its messaging service, it is unclear on how BlackBerry Inc. (NASDAQ:BBRY) would make money from such an application.

Focus on emerging markets

BlackBerry Inc. (NASDAQ:BBRY) had unveiled its new phone Q5, a lower end mobile phone aimed at the emerging markets. This is the first phone of BlackBerry Inc. (NASDAQ:BBRY) targeted at developed economies as the company aims at tapping the 17 percent market share of smart phone shipments to emerging economies.

Sales of Q10

On the other hand, BlackBerry Inc. (NASDAQ:BBRY) also introduced the new version of Q10, which is loaded with Skype application and is expected to reach the US market by early June. Though the smart phone had managed to gain healthy market share in UK and Canada, BlackBerry Inc. (NASDAQ:BBRY) would be facing a big test in the US market. The company aims at regaining its market which it had lost to the smart phones of Samsung and Apple in the recent years.
