Boston, MA 09/25/2014 (wallstreetpr) – One of the largest automakers in the world, General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) would be repositioning its premium car brand, Cadillac, with a fresh name to be adopted so as to compete against its foreign rivals. The brand would also become a separate unit.
New Products Next Year
General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) has named its flagship car, Cadillac CT6, which would be first among the new products, Reuters reported. The new sedan would be due to be launched in late 2015 and would compete with high-end models such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW.
The new car, which would be manufactured in the company’s Hamtramck plant in Detroit, would come out as a 2016 model positioning itself above Cadillac’s CTS and XTS cars. The CT6 would likely be priced in excess of $50,000 consisting of fresh offering and not merely a replacement of an existing model.
The new brand would have a fresh architecture, which was called as Omega internally, and would be rear-wheel driven. The company would also make use of the advanced driver-assistance technologies like new Super Cruise System to allow semi-automated control of brakes, steering and throttle in driving.
Cadillac As A Separate Unit
General Motors has confirmed that it was planning to set up Cadillac as a separate identity. It disclosed that De Nysschen would be the president of the unit with headquarters in New York. This meant that the headquarters of the unit would be shifted from Detroit. He was the head of Volkswagen AG’s Audi car, a premium brand, in North America and was instrumental in naming a strategy when he was with Nissan Motor Co’s luxury brand, Infiniti.
General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) said that the new name indicated simplified naming convention for the future models of Cadillac. Gradually, it intends to have a new naming strategy in place. Its Chief Marketing Officer for Cadillac, Uwe Ellinghaus, said that General Motors would resort to changing the name of a product only when the product itself was redesigned, or a fresh model was created like CT6.
