Boston, MA 09/25/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Global telecommunications company, Alcatel Lucent SA (ADR) (NYSE:ALU), disclosed that it was the first company to provide a single-carrier 100 Gbps and 200G DWDM optical line card enabling the service providers the capacity to double the bandwidth capacity of their networks.
Flexible Network Evolution Path
Alcatel Lucent SA (ADR) (NYSE:ALU) said that the line card would plug into the company’s 1830 Photonic Service Switch or PSS platform giving services providers a flexibility in evolution path of network and also meet the rapidly growing demands for high-range bandwidth services like cloud computing and HD video, its statement revealed. It indicated that the single carrier line card was already deployed into 20 networks of service providers after a pre-selection process.
Alcatel Lucent said that its single-carrier optical line card enabled operators to send their data over a distance of as high as 4,000 km in 100G type and as high as 1,000 km in 200G mode. The company said that its 200G solution initially enabled the doubling of fiber capability to 17.6 Tbps from 8.8 Tbps. It pointed out that its flexible grid quality performed a total system capability of 24 Tbps. Significantly, the solution was backward compatible with earlier generations of its 100G DWDM solution.
Demand For Real-Time Video
Alcatel Lucent SA (ADR) (NYSE:ALU) highlighted the study of a Bell Labs that was released in December last year. The study indicated that the demand for real-time video content streamed to mobile smart devices from the cloud would jump 720% in 2017 from the base year of 2012. Similarly, datacenter traffic would also climb 440% in the same period of review.
Alcatel Lucent said that Intelligent Networks’ Principal Analyst, Ron Kline, said that 200G offers a compelling case for operators to cut down total ownership costs. He said that the key feature was that the technology offered double the bandwidth in the same footprint without any need for additional power requirements, which was undoubtedly a great opportunity for operators.
