Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) To Share Its Electrified Vehicle Patents At A Fee

Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) announced that it will share its electrified vehicle technology with other automotive companies at a fee to finance RND for the subject vehicles.

Ford introduced the offer almost one year after Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) decided to share its vehicle patents with other firms. However, Tesla did not include any charge or fee.

So far, electric vehicles have not received the appeal that governments and manufacturers had anticipated despite the heavy investment in the technology by vehicle manufacturers. The idea of vehicles running on electric was received with a lot of excitement, but that excitement does not reflect the actual situation in the market.

Perhaps the concept has not picked up a proper pace because of the uncertain nature of electric powered vehicles. After all, it is a relatively new concept. Additionally the lack of infrastructure to support such a game changer plays a huge role in the slow progression for electric cars.

Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) has been on a mission to change the face of electric power technology, and the company has an actual legitimate plan. It seems other firms have started to notice and are thus starting to make preparations to follow suit.

In 2014, the number of electric vehicles sold in the United States went up significantly though electric vehicle sales have a long way to go before they can be described as admirable. Some of the biggest challenges facing the electric motor industry is the power range especially with the lack of sufficient charging stations between the distances. It, therefore, becomes harder to convince people to buy these vehicles.

Fortunately, some of these problems are being addressed. For instance, electric vehicle manufacturing companies have been installing more charging stations in more regions particularly targeting their potential markets.

Some vehicle manufacturers are collaborating with Tesla to set up this system as well as refining the technology. Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F), Nissan, Volkswagen AG and General Motors are some of the companies getting in on the action.
