Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) latest operating system, OS X might benefit from a fix or the WIFI and connectivity problems that some Mac users have been experiencing.
Operating system developers working on Apple’s OS X have already gotten rid of the discoveryd networking process, which they suspect was the source of the connectivity problems. In a weird technological twist, the company decided to revert to the mDNSResponder that is the process they had used at first before it was replaced by the Discoveryd process.
Apple has not released any formal news about the change, but it is perhaps good to point out that this beta design of the operating system. 9to5Mac has already started to report problems with services such as Airdrop and Handoff. These two might have been part of the reason Apple OS developer’s ditched mDNSResponder in the first place.
The decision to change back to the mDNSResponder is a smart move by the developers to bring clear out the connection problem. The switchback was also described as Apple’s move to promote mDNSResponder’s open nature. It is no doubt that the company has been leaning further into Opensource.
Discoveryd was originally intended to advance internet connectivity for the Macs. Rather than refining connectivity, the service proved to be more of a nuisance. It did not work as anticipated and was characterized by a few unattractive issues. The bugs led to the loss of many hours as users attempted to fix their connection. Rebooting the machine was a viable solution though not very appealing. Nobody wants to keep on rebooting their device so that it can perform a task as simple as connecting to the internet.
Apple needed a long term solution to deal with the issue. The rival operating system, Windows had also experienced such problems in the past. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) hopes that any other issues arising from the use of mDNSResponder will be easier to fix. In the meantime, users can now continue to enjoy uninterrupted Internet access.
