Boston, MA 02/12/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) request for free data access has been turned down by Vodafone Group Plc (ADR) (NASDAQ:VOD) according to Financial Times. Facebook has been trying its level best in the background to instigate deals with carriers in emerging markets that will provide an opening for the offering free access to its services. It is being reported that Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg had earlier requested Vodafone to zero rate its content in the social network platform.
Facebook targeting emerging markets
Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) has been targeting emerging markets as it tries to expand its wings in accelerating its growth plan considering the penetration levels and cost in the US AND Western European nations are so high. The tinkering problem that Facebook has been facing in the recent past is the high costs that its users are facing whenever they use their mobile phones to access the social network. Subscribers in the emerging markets have been shying away as the costs continue to bite on their pockets making it extremely difficult for Facebook to tap into this markets that have been found to have a huge potential.
Facebook deals in other emerging markets
Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) as it tries to accelerate its plans to tap into emerging markets, has signed some deals that it intends to use for this purpose, the recent one being the deal with pre-paid service GoSmart which is a subsidiary of Go smart.
In other news Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) Co-founder Dustin Moskovitz has been reported to controlling 4.71% of the company’s 2.55 billion outstanding shares. This essentially gives him the sole voting power of over 42,323,109 shares
Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) continues to dominate the market as it continues to reap from its recent quarter earnings, the company closed Tuesday trading session at a high of $64.85 an improvement of 2.05% compared to the previous day trading session.
