Boston, MA 10/14/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) Chairman and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, visited the social-media crazy Indonesia. The CEO met Indonesia’s President-Elect, Joko Widodo, during his visit to impress upon the need to spread Internet across the globe. The initiative was part of his exercise on worldwide Internet-access.
Growing Jobs
Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s chairman said that one of the top priorities was the growing jobs that he has communicated with the president-elect, AP reported. This could happen when the economy grows. Therefore, he said that promoting the Internet and connectivity was one of the greatest ways to achieve that.
Zuckerberg has been engaged in promoting its project Internet.org. He said that his objective was to try and get free basic services besides reasonably priced Internet access to minimum two-thirds of the world population, who were not at all on the Internet.
While he said that he wanted more and more people to get connected to Internet and also use his social networking site, he said that the move was not primarily aimed at making money. His opinion may be applicable for the near term.
Fourth Biggest User
Facebook CEO’s visit to Indonesia was quite understandable since it was the fourth biggest user of the site. Incidentally, the president-elect used the social networking site extensively during his campaign. There are about 69 million active users of Facebook every month in Indonesia. Interestingly, 61 million of them were using mobile devices.
However, despite such statistics, the majority of the 252 million people in Indonesia still do not have the access to Internet. In a lighter moment, he replied that it worked when a press person sought his experience in Indonesia. There was a general complaint about the speed of the Internet.
He pointed out that there were many places where some basic things do not exist. However, he said that in Indonesia, his team took a picture of a temple in Indonesia and uploaded it immediately for many to see it in the site. It remains to be seen whether his visit delivers the expected results.
