EMCORE Corporation (NASDAQ:EMKR) Unveils Dual Micro-ITLA Tunable Laser Assembly For Coherent Market

Boston, MA 09/22/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Semiconductor company, EMCORE Corporation (NASDAQ:EMKR) disclosed that it has launched dual micro-Integrable Tunable Laser Assembly or ITLA for the coherent market that has attracted the attention of customer sampling for qualification. The company expects it to launch commercially in the first quarter of the next calendar year 2015.

External Cavity Laser

EMCORE Corporation (NASDAQ:EMKR) said that its dual micro-ITLA would integrate its proprietary cooled technology of External Cavity Laser or ECL in a fresh smaller package providing all the benefits of the product in a form-factor, which needed 25% less space compared with two single micro-ITLA combinations. However, it would deliver similar kind of performance, according to its statement.

EMCORE said that its ECL ITLA technology was the most commonly used tunable laser foundation for high-speed 100 and 400 GBPS coherent transmission systems due to its thin linewidth, excellent frequency accuracy and low noise. This allows customers to plan even higher thickness into their coherent systems.

The company disclosed that its dual micro-ITLA was configurable for particular customer applications only and came up with a normal ITLA RS-232 digital user interface for suitable technology-independent product control. There were also more features attached to the normal product including off-grid tuning, grid-agnostic channel plan, frequency adjustment capability and in-operation power.

It has also indicated that it would meet industry analysts and its customers at Cannes, France, during the ECOC 2014 on September 22 and 23 at Hotel Gray D’Albion.

Management Comments

EMCORE Corporation (NASDAQ:EMKR) Executive Vice President and General Manager of Fiber Optics Division, LC Chiu, said that the product with a new addition comes after the success of the micro-ITLA and ITLA that have achieved overriding market positions for coherent applications of optical network. He said that more than 300,000 micro-ITLA and ITLAs combined were employed in the field enabling it to carry live traffic of the advanced high-speed coherent networks. The product continues its leadership position in tunable laser technology that demanded high-performance applications from telecom.
