Boston, MA 04/23/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) along with tech giants like Microsoft Corporations (MSFT) and others joined in as an audience today to decide the future road map of the Internet in Brazil and the level of privacy that will be guaranteed.
Brazil Takes The Charge From U.S.
Today’s meeting of the tech giants is the first such gathering post the spying disclosures about the U.S. came into light. The U.S., which was dominantly shaping the internet across the regions, was accused of intercepting communications from the leaders of the world including Brazil’s President DilmaRousseff. As a result, Brazil steps forward to take the governance of this critical technology to a new direction. In its effort, the country has drafted a bill called Marco Civil, which was passed by the Brazil’s Congress yesterday. The bill is encouraged by companies like Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) and Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) as it will prevent them from liability for their website’s content. Moreover, it will provide rights to its users to express freely. Ronaldo Lemos, director of the Center for Technology and Society in Rio de Janeiro said that the bill is a way to show the country’s internal effort to the world and if it gets success, then it could be adopted globally.
Highly Significant For Companies
