Need for new ships
Australia is a potential market in the cruise industry. There has been a massive 130% increase in the number of cruise passenger in Australia in the past five years. It is expected to reach one million by 2016. Vacation on cruise has become very popular among the Australians. Australia has seen a 20% increase in annual passenger rate. Carnival Corporation (NYSE:CCL) is the only company with its ships based in full-time water.
The P&O Cruisers fleet
Canadian Corporation’s P&O Cruises has decided to add two new ships to its fleet. It will be able to serve more passengers. The addition will support Carnival Corporation’s expansion plans by collaboration of its two brands out of ten.
The two ships will be transferred from the Holland America Line brand to P&O Cruise’s fleet. The ms Ryndam and ms Statendam currently sailing in the Holland America Line fleet are the two ships to be transferred.
The ships are expected to join the P&O Cruises fleet by November 2015. The itineraries for the ships are yet to be decided. The ships will offer comfort and style. The ships will also include flexible features for the comfort of passengers in Australian and New Zealand. They are of medium size.
P&O Cruises will have total of five ships after the addition. P&O Cruises will become largest year-round fleet in Australia. The ships sail from five cities in Australia along with Auckland in New Zealand. The other three ships sailing under P&O cruise are the Pacific Dawn, Pacific Jewel and Pacific Pearl.
Company’s other expansion plans
Currently, Holland America Line is engaged in the construction of its largest ship. The ship is expected to be delivered by February 2016. It will weigh about 99,500 tons and will have a carrying capacity of 2,660 passengers. The ship aims to replace the carrying capacity reduced by the transfer of the two ships.
Carnival Corporation (NYSE:CCL) will be the first company having four ships in China by 2015. It will be able to offer short-break cruises and traditional cruises to the South Pacific. The cruises to will also serve new destinations such as Papua New Guinea and Asia.
