Arena Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:ARNA): Sales Force To Sell Belviq Doubled

Boston, MA 10/17/2013 (wallstreetpr) – Arena Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:ARNA) recently announced that their partner Eisai Inc is all set to increase the size of sales force that is involved in selling Belviq, their weight management drug by two times.

Ever since the launch of the drug, it has turned out to be successful and there has been an increase in the coverage of the drug by health plans and pharmacy as well. Keeping in tune with the increase in coverage, the company took the decision to increase the number of representatives in the sales team.

The company believes that the increase in the strength of sales force is likely to improve the amount of sales as well. Arena is hopeful that the increase in sales team is likely to increase the momentum for the drug sales.

The growth of Arena is highly dependent on Belviq as it is the sole product which the company markets. A lot of people are suffering from obesity these days and it is this pill that can help people in cutting down the extra weight. Arena and Eisai are trying all they can in order to boost the sales of this product.

The companies are also trying to get approval for the drug in various other countries so that they can sell their product in those nations too. They are trying to get approval for Belviq in Canada and Mexico. However, the process for approval in EU has gone awry as the company finally withdrew the marketing authorization application. The committee in the European market came to the conclusion that the non clinical studies were sufficient to approve this obesity reduction drug. Arena has decided to re-file the application later in future.

Despite the problems with approval in EU nations, Arena is hopeful of a significant increase in the sales of Belviq as together with Eisai, they are tapping all possible ways to boost the sales.
