Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) Confirmed Removing Facebook And Google Logins For Flickr

Boston, MA 06/09/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) confirmed that Google and Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) sign-ins from Flickr will be removed with effect from June 30, 2014. At the beginning of the year itself, Yahoo had unveiled its plans to phase out Google and Facebook sign-ins through its services.

Compulsory Requirement of Yahoo ID

Flickr users in a mail from Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) received notices that Facebook and Google IDs will not suffice the need of logging in after June 30, 2014. The users of Flickr will have to make use of Yahoo account associated with Flickr in order to login. The Flickr users were, in a way, encouraged to create and connect to Yahoo before month-end.

Why have Yahoo Account?

The Yahoo account can be used for accessing all the Internet content such as weather, sports and general news along with the mobile applications such as yahoo News Digest. Flickr, in the meanwhile, is making continuous efforts to make a comeback in photo sharing business, and it is for this reason that it has also enabled the users to get access to 1 TB free storage space.

The Conflict of Social Logins

Flickr, in its effort to make a comeback and widen the customer base, had integrated a third-party log-in in the year 2011. In order to widen its own customer base, yahoo is now trying to make use of the popularity of Flicker by making it mandatory to have a Yahoo login for the photo sharing website.

Flickr- Standing up through time and tide

It is worth noticing that Flickr has so far stood by the time and tide, as well as a hindering competition from Google and Facebook in this conflict of the social logins. Gigya, the social login aggregator, in its recent report, said that around 58% of the social logins were Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) empowered. 28% of these logins were powered by Google. Yahoo and Twitter lagged behind with 13% and 14% respectively.
