Vale SA (ADR) (NYSE:VALE) New Caledonian Nickel Production To Resume Within 10 Days

Boston, MA 06/09/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Vale SA (ADR) (NYSE:VALE) New Caledonian Nickel production is set to begin within just 10 days after Vale received the official permission from the Government to start its operations again. The Nickel production facility at Vale in New Caledonia is said to be the second biggest reserve of the world. The facility will restart its operations in a slow and organised manner.

Why did the production stop?

The operations at New Caledonian Nickel plant of Vale SA (ADR) (NYSE:VALE) stopped because of acid solution spill. The permission to restart production of this plant was received by the company on May 30, 2014. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the Pacific Ocean based New Caledonia is a home to around 16% of the global reserves, which is second only to Australia.

New Plans and Course of Action

Vale SA (ADR) (NYSE:VALE) has planned that this year that it will produce over 40,000 metric tons of Nickel at its New Caledonia site, which was earlier known as Goro. The prices of this element are increased 37% in 2014 as the Macquarie Group Ltd. predicts global deficit. However, according to a resource analyst, David Lennox, restarting the nickel production would put a sinking pressure on price of nickel.

Status of the Demand for Refined Nickel

It is expected that the demand for newly refined nickel might exceed the supply by 36000 tons in the year 2014. It would exceed 131,000 tons in 2015. This was predicted by Macquarie Group Ltd. on May 16, 2014. Citigroup, on the other hand, estimated that the global mined production of nickel would be around 1.9 million tons, down from 2.3 million in the previous year. Citigroup explained that the because of the ore ban of Indonesia, there was a devastating impact on the nickel market. Citigroup explained that it was just like Saudi Arabia putting to halt the supply of oil. It is predicted that there would be the creation of deficit from 2015 until 2018.
