(NYSE:UPS) disclosed the elevation of its chief operating officer David Abney to the position of chief executive officer. The promotion of David Abney will take effect from September 1, since the current CEO will retire on that day. David Abney has also been inducted into its board.
Elevation of COO
David Abney has been with the logistic giant since 1974 as a part-timer of package loader. The company has a history of elevating senior internal executives to the role of CEO because of its extraordinary depth of management and therefore it became no surprise to the market. He carries 4 decades of experience having held different operational positions before being the COO of the logistic firm. As COO, David Abney was responsible for logistics, engineering, and sustainability besides leading its key investments in alternative fuel needs. He was also responsible for implementing programs to increase total freight volume of the company having served over 200 countries and territories.
David Abney has also held the position of United Parcel Service, Inc. (NYSE:UPS)’ international division’s president where he expanded its global logistics capabilities and helped the company in its acquisition quest to expand its footprint and lift its presence in the domestic market.
