Boston, MA 10/16/2014 (wallstreetpr) – United Continental Holdings Inc (NYSE:UAL)’s United Airlines disclosed its intention of adding Wi-Fi and personal device entertainment in its over 200 two-cabin United Express regional jets. The company indicated that its first Wi-Fi enabled flights would be launched within the current year.
Gogo’s ATG-4
In a statement issued to the media, the company said that it plans to install advanced air-to-ground Wi-Fi product from Gogo’s ATG-4 on its E175, E170 and CRJ700 aircraft. It expects to complete the process of installations before the next summer.
United Airlines said that it would also be expanding personal device entertainment from early next year to these aircraft. It would allow its customers to choose from a broad range of television shows and movies to watch on their Wi-Fi-powered iOS and Android gadgets with the help of its mobile app and laptop computers.
Investments On Wi-Fi and Entertainment
United Continental Holdings Inc (NYSE:UAL) said that its investment on Wi-Fi and personal device entertainment was meant to take care of its customers’ in-flight connectivity. It added that the airline would also offer over 340 aircrafts with Wi-Fi. It included close to two-thirds of its mainline domestic fleet. The company indicated that by the middle of the next year, it intends to install Wi-Fi on its complete mainline fleet.
United Airlines said that over 180 mainline aircraft would be added with personal device entertainment. It included all Airbus aircraft, Boeing 747s and nine 777s, which mainly flies between the continental United States and Hawaii. The personal device entertainment would be added to over 200 mainline aircraft before the end of the current year.

United Continental Holdings Inc (NYSE:UAL)’s Executive VP of marketing, technology and strategy, Jeff Foland, said that he was pleased to extend the technology in its regional jets. He added that the new elements would improve the complete in-flight experience for its customers.
