It ha snot only resumed the production but have also enhanced the production capacity. The plant was undergoing a planned refueling and maintenance outage. It will now start the production of the low cost, carbon free electricity.
Scheduled Maintenance Outage
Unit 1 of the Vogtle Nuclear Plant located near Waynesboro, Ga. went offline on March 16 for a scheduled maintenance outage. The production has resumed conveniently and safely has started from April 14. The last time the plant went for the refueling outage was in year 2012. The company maintains the safety factor as its top most priority and don’t make any compromise while completing the outage safely and efficiently.
The trend continues
Unit 1 of the Vogtle Nuclear Plant has delivered ample production in its last fuel cycle. The Southern Company (NYSE:SO) was successful in providing electricity for more than 513 consecutive days. The scheduled maintenance outage was accomplished so that the Unit 1 can produce low cost electricity without any hindrance for the 18 months. Apart from the maintenance outage, Plant Vogtle Unit 1 was upgraded with the latest plant systems and components.

The up-gradation of Plant Vogtle Unit 1 was in line with the expectations. The Southern Company called additional workers from the different companies like Williams and Westinghouse to complete the special up-gradation jobs. The task was completed in association with the employees of the Southern Nuclear Fleet. The additional workers assisted the nearby communities by providing considerable economic stimulus.
