Boston, MA 08/29/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Designer and manufacturer of electric vehicles, Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) and China-based Unicom have struck an accord that would allow establishing charging points for Tesla’s vehicles throughout China.
Setting Up Of Charging Points
Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) said that it had reached a deal with China United Network Communications Corp for establishing 400 charging points spreading across 120 cities in China, Bloomberg reported. The charging points would be built at China Unicom outlets. This apart, the two companies have also agreed to establish 20 supercharging stations, which would work 16 times faster the normal one.
As per the agreement struck between the two companies, Tesla would take care of offering the devices for establishing charging stations. China Unicom, on the other hand, would provide the land. However, the companies have refused to disclose the cost involved in establishing these charge points.
Tesla spokesperson, Peggy Yang, said that its customers would not be charged at these charging stations and that it would be free of cost for them.
Others In The Sector
Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) would join the ranks of German-based Bayerische Motoren Werke AG in establishing public charging stations in China. The company’s latest move would allow them to offer more convenience to its electric vehicle owners in China.
The Chinese central government has also been reportedly pondering over a $16 billion or 100 billion Yuan to help establish charging facilities. The government’s objective was to stimulate demand for clean cars, Bloomberg said quoting people familiar with the events.
Similar Deal
The California-based Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) had also struck similar kind of deal with real-estate developers China Yantai Holdings Co. and Soho China Ltd. to establish charging stations in their properties through the country.
Tesla had delivered its first electric vehicles to the consumers of China in April and indicated then that it would spend millions of dollars to establish charging stations network around China.
