Tekmira Pharmaceutical Corporation (NASDAQ:TKMR) Grabbed Opportunity With Both Hands

Boston, MA 10/04/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Ever since the outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus, a lot of drug companies have joined hands to fight against the deadly virus. Tekmira Pharmaceutical Corporation (NASDAQ:TKMR), is one of those companies which has garnered interest not only from investors but also from health regulators.

With the recently found first case of the disease in the U.S., there is increasing interest in similar companies that are that are in the process of introducing a successful therapy. Based out of Burnaby, a city in British Columbia, Canada, Tekmira Pharmaceutical Corporation (NASDAQ:TKMR)’s TKM-Ebola therapy has been used on patients which also include, Richard Sacra, an American missionary who has contracted the disease while in Liberia.

The initial tests have helped Tekmira Pharmaceutical Corporation’s (NASDAQ:TKMR) stock price to climb from around $10 i.e. the price before the USFDA to a closing price of $29.53 on 3rd October, 2014. Meanwhile, the company had revenues of $15.5 million in FY13 and a loss of 87 cents per share, and the financial prospects of the company are not that great but the company will ride the tide till there is Ebola scare.

The first Ebola case was reported in the U.S related to a patient named Thomas E. Duncan, who lives in a Texas apartment and had contracted the disease while in Liberia. After the detection of the first case also known as “Patient Zero” by Dallas city officials, direct contact among people in the area has been very limited. It’s been three days since Mr. Duncan was diagnosed with Ebola.

Though Ebola is not an airborne disease and spreads mainly through direct contact and bodily fluids of the patients, people are wary of even shaking hands with strangers. The fear among people is not only due to misinformation but also as a result of the manner in which the situation has been handled by local officials.
