Support ends for Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s Windows XP

Boston, MA 04/21/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) had announced last November, that it was going to end support for its Windows XP operating system, from April 8. Looking at the quantity of people and concerns that still employ this operating system, this move was always exiting to cause a big significance, especially for the IT industry.

The effect

A massive 65% of the organizations still bank on Windows XP today. The obvious question is, how will this move impact them? Amrish Goyal, Manager, Windows Business Group, Microsoft Corporation (India) says that nothing would happen. These computers can very much use XP as their operating system, but that they simply won’t be receiving any updates. With time, the absence of updates will open up more vulnerability in the system, and the computer is less good when it relates to the net each time.

Other options

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) had launched the Windows XP operating system way back in 2001. It went on to become its most successful operating system and also was pretty stable from its second release. The revamped browser and security gave it a big edge in terms of performance.

With new Windows operating systems in the fray, the best selection for companies would be to strike up to Windows 8.1. Goyal says that Windows 8.1 isn’t a lot different from Windows 7 and that it is more effective. He indicates that the primary motive should be upgrading from XP and hence any OS of choice can be habituated.

The process of migration as such can be a hectic process for many companies. It takes a planned approach with a well-defined roadmap.

Security issues

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has warned those who contrive to keep running on XP. The warnings, mainly concern security issues. The software behemoth has also said that the end of support would mean no updates, service packs or fixes for the OS. However, the company will provide support for its anti-malware applications until July 2015.

A routine of computer security vendors like ESET, Avast, and Trend Micro will continue to back up Windows XP. This will provide for additional security in the hereafter.
