Boston, MA 03/12/2014 (wallstreetpr) – There is a lot more brewing at the world’s biggest coffee-shop operator, Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX). Apparently, it seems that Starbucks is not just about coffee, but all about being Smartphone savvy too. As the coffee company is all up to rolling out its tips app this month, it also has plans to test the mobile ordering service.
Orders Can Be Placed Through Mobiles
In a move to broaden its Smartphone applications, Starbucks is reported to be actively involved in rolling out mobile ordering service at its cafes in the U.S. this year. The main feature in play behind this idea is that the customers can place their orders via their mobile phones, ahead of time, which would speed up the service as well as save time. Without revealing much of the details about the plan, the company’s Chief Digital Officer Adam Brotman mentioned that it is something which customers demanded. Approximately 5 million mobile transactions are processed by the company every week and it is shifting rapidly towards expanding and augmenting its mobile apps and reward programs so as to drive sales.
During the interview, Brotman revealed that the company’s CEO Howard Schultz handed over his responsibility of day-to-day operations to its COO Troy Alstead last month, in order to concentrate on ‘next-gen’ retail, digital as well as mobile payments.
‘Tipping’ Soon To Come On Mobile App
Leaving a barista tip through mobile app is going to become a reality on March 19 as the coffee chain will add-on this feature on its new version of app for iPhones. With the launch of this feature, a customer will be able to tip in denominations of $0.50, $1 or maximum of $2 within a span of two hours of the transaction. The app update comes at a time when the company’s app has become popular as every one out of ten orders is placed through mobile devices now. The digital tipping will be effective for over 7,000 company-owned locations in the United States.
Apart from the tipping feature, the app will also have a new function, called, ‘shake-to-pay’, which will pull up the customer’s Starbucks card barcode on just by shaking the phone and thus, enabling for a faster mobile payment. Other features involve, store location and Starbuck card reloading.
One thing is for sure that the new app update will definitely a reason of smile on Starbucks employees.
