Boston, MA 02/25/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Sony Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) has used the ongoing Mobile World Conference in Barcelona to showcase its new technology that will obviously hurt the feelings of people at Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Samsung Electronics among other smart-devices makers.
Sony Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) once used to enjoy its position as the electronics powerhouse back then when it sold a lot of television sets, walkman audio players and a long list of other electronic devices. However, competition has left the company gasping for breath even in areas that it once dominated.
But even in the middle of troubles, Sony Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) is not about to play second fiddle to any one, at least not rivals Apple Inc and Samsung.
First and foremost, the company plans to spin off its television business and sell its personal computer division.
And in attempts to vie for the gold in smartphone and tablet markets, the company has just announced Xperia Z2 smartphone that not only borrows from the company’s technology used in its camcorder and audio products, but also comes with high-definition video capability.
Looking into the past to shape the future
The new Xperia Z2 smartphone has the ability to capture ultra-high-definition video images and also features noise-counseling capability. These are some features that can be traced in earlier products manufactured by Sony Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:SNE). Perhaps this aptly explains what the company’s CEO Kazuo Hirai meant when he said that the new lineup of Sony products feature engineering, artistic and 60 years of design excellence.
The just showcased Xperia Z2 smartphone sports 20.7 megapixel of camera, just the same kind that is found in Z1s and Z1. The phone is also waterproof and comes with a screen larger than what you’ve perhaps known before from Sony. As regards camera capability, Z2 knocks out most other smartphone rivals which feature camera capacities in the range of 8 to 12 megapixels.
More from Sony
Sony Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) did not just prepare one announcement for Monday at the MWC. The company also showcased a fitness accessory called SmartBand. The device works with Lifelog app and is able to record user’s activities on the phone.
On top of SmartBand, Sony announced a high-end tablet also called Xperia Z2 that features 10.1 inches of screen size. Also part of the announcement was Xperia M2 which is a cheaper version of Xperia Z2.
Conclusion
Without a doubt, Sony Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) is out to penetrate the lucrative smartphone and tablet market by infusing technology that once put it at the cutting-edge of electronics industry. That the company has also decided to spin off its television business and sell personal computer division is also indication that the company is looking to high growth and high margin areas to boost its financial performance going forward.
