Today Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) showcased the Xperia Z4 its cutting edge flagship smartphone. In an announcement in Japanese, the smartphone was made public. Currently, there is no international launch date or an accompanying ‘Compact’ version.
The features in detail
The Xperia Z4 is pretty similar to its Z3 predecessor. It has the identical 5.2 inch screen, a slimmer 6.9 mm form as well as a Snapdragon 810 processor. The latter’s speed is a relatively slower 2GHz. However, it is eight core and 64 bit. Also available is 3 GB of RAM and out of the box Android 5.0.The rear oriented camera has an astounding 20.7 megapixels while the front oriented camera comes with a wide angle lens.
Attractive color range
The phone comes in a gamut of colors including aqua green, copper, white and black. Also, it is preloaded with some Google applications including YouTube, Play and more.
Sony is renowned for its water and dust resistant devices. Xperia Z4 has the same stand out features. No wonder Sony scores over the rest of the competition.
Its speculated that Sony is deliberating an exit from the smartphone arena. Its latest restructuring didn’t have that possibility realized. However, it remains a future prospect.
The Xperia Z4 is yet another iterative product. While the Xperia Z3 got plenty of positive reviews, it didn’t sell very well. This makes it difficult how sticking to the same product features will dig the firm out of its rut on mobile.
Global launch in the pipeline
If you are an Xperia aficionado, watch this space for details of the Z4’s global launch. This is likely to come sooner rather than later after the high profile announcement in Japan. The smartphone will ship in summer in Japan. The device is clearly targeted for the global audience as it supports other languages other than Japanese. The languages include Chinese, English and certain European languages.
The move by Sony to launch Xperia Z4 comes amid rumors that the organization was looking at scaling down or even pulling out of its smartphone venture.
