It has sold ten million units worldwide. The figure is double of the number of game consoles sold back in February. The street welcomed the sales number, and the Sony stocks posted gains in morning trade in Tokyo.
The pace of sales
The speed with which Sony PlayStation 4s has sold worldwide is noteworthy. Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) has moved 5.3 million consoles in February. In a matter of few months, the sales have almost doubled. It has outpaced the sales of Xbox One by as much as three times. The ten million units are sold in the period of nine months since it was launched back in last November.
Versus Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)
It is a clear game going on in the between the two consoles launched almost at the same time of last year. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Xbox One and Sony’s PlayStation 4s both were launched last year. Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) has outpaced the sales number of Xbox one in each of the last six months in the United States. It becomes all more crucial as company introduced a cheaper version of the console that didn’t include a Kinect. The strategy worked for Microsoft, and its sales will gets get a boost from the Kinect-free version. Still it is not enough to leave the PlayStation 4s behind in the number game.
The future
The sales of PlayStation 4s foretell a comeback of profitable time for Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE). Sony has disclosed its plans of firmware upgrade 2.0 at the GamesCon convention in Cologne. It also will introduce a new feature known as SharePlay. The feature can be used by the different players to compete irrespective of their location.
