On April 13, the Chatham Business Association along with U.S. Rep. Bobby L.Rush announced a new pilot program to train ten residents from the Chatham and neighboring localities. The outreach effort is being made to install smart meters in the locality so that people can have better access to savings. Exelon Corporation’s (NYSE:EXC) unit ComEd has collaborated to bring about the program.
The outreach effort has come due to Rep. Rush’s call to increase economic activities and bring jobs to the area. The program will train people to spread awareness about the benefits of using smart meters and to convince people to replace their existing meters with smart meters.
Rep. Rush in his statement stated that the move by ComEd and Chatham Business Association was a good one, and it simultaneously brought jobs and savings. The program will train people to talk to people about the advantages of using smart meters and to convince them to install smart meter over existing meters.

He stated that he hoped other corporations would also make a similar move so as to economically benefit Chatham.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel stated that the digital smart meters not only bring savings for families but also brings jobs to the area. He applauded ComEd and Rep. Rush for their effort in bringing smart meters in the area.
According to ComEd president and CEO Anne Pramaggiore, more than 3600 jobs have been created in the northern Illinois due to Smart Grid Network. She further stated that the pilot program was there to ensure that more people benefit from smart meter technology.
The pilot program is expected to be for three months, and the result of the pilot will determine future steps.
