Skechers USA Inc (NYSE:SKX) Files Lawsuit Against Footwear Retailer On Claims Of Infringement

Boston, MA 09/18/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Skechers USA Inc (NYSE:SKX), an international brand in performance and lifestyle footwear, has sued DB Shoe Company, LLC on claims of infringement.

Patent Infringement

Skechers announced yesterday that he California-based retailer of footwear, DB Shoe is engaged in selling the company’s well-known SKECHERS GO WALK® series of products. Skechers has, hence filed a law suit against the company on claims of infringement in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. As a Businesswire article informs, the company is seeking to get compensatory and penalizing harm that has been caused to it. In addition to that, the company also demanded injunctive reprieve for breach of several of its patents. Skechers USA Inc (NYSE:SKX) claimed that DB Shoe infringed as many as seven distinct patents of the company. Skechers’ complaint highlights that the shoe retailer is selling infringed products under brand name SUPER DREAM WALK 816.

Intellectual Property Rights

The Manhattan Beach, California-based Skechers USA Inc (NYSE:SKX) develops designs and sells its own footwear, which comes in several series of product lines. Its target customers include women, men and children in the U.S. and also in over 100 other countries, including Europe, Japan, Chile Canada and Brazil. The company said that it invests a lot of resources into the development and marketing of its products.

The company claims to have established its SKECHERS GO WALK series of products into a brand name which is well-known across the world as synonymous with the company’s name. The product-series benefits all of its retail partners, as well as Skechers USA Inc (NYSE:SKX), the company’s Chief Operating Officer, David Weinberg, said. He also said that the company will not entertain rivals and retailers to breach one of its highly priced intellectual properties. He said that the company will ascertain the enforcement of its intellectual property rights to fight any company that deals in footwear and breaches its designs.
