Boston, MA 08/29/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Since the cold war between US and Russia started over Ukraine issue, both the countries have been doing things to affect each other. In this series, Russia has gone a step ahead and decided to close McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) Stores. After closing five MCD restaurants in the near past, Russian government has further closed three more stores. The total number of MCD restaurants that have been closed has now reached eight which has disappointed fast food lovers in Russia.
How’d it started:
Russia and US indulged into a cold war on Ukraine issue, in which former supported Ukraine. Soon after this cold war, Russian government started conducting unscheduled food inspections. The authority that was behind this inspection said that MCD’s food was not up to the mark and could harm local people. As a result of these unplanned inspections, three stores the highest selling McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) restaurants in Moscow were closed suddenly. Although people of Russia were not happy about from this incident, but government remained unaffected.
Soon after the closure of three stores in Moscow, Russian government did inspection in other stores as well across the country and closed one store in Yekaterinburg and one store in Stavropol in the Urals region. A lot of unveiled sweeping checks were also done across the country that gave a clear indication that issue was much more than just the quality checking of food.
Russia’s food safety watchdog said that all the inspections and closure of stores were done for sanitary reasons, but it looked otherwise. US and other European nations have put quite a few sanctions on Russia and Moscow in Ukraine issue that has affected the relations between both the countries. Russia has stopped importing western goods and food items.
In this series, one McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) outlet in Serpukhov in Moscow region and two outlets in Sochi have been closed temporarily. Company is not sure about the re-opening of all the eight MCD stores.
