Riverbed Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:RVBD) has decided to hold the SharkFest ’15 Wireshark Educational Conference. The event is planned to be held at the Computer History Museum, in Mountain View, California. The event is planned to be held from June 22-25 and is aimed at bringing together Wireshark developer and user communities. The attendees, share their experience and knowledge, with regard to the open source project.
Shark Fest has been known to help developer communities, for the product, to come together and hone their skills in packet data analysis. There are a number of sessions, training programs and workshops held to achieve this. Riverbed has, however, gone a step ahead and added “The Reef” to Shark Fest. The Reef would be a drop in mentoring area, which would be open every day during the conference.
The Reef is aimed at providing:
- A self-paced hands-on lab
- Meetings with Wireshark mentors
- Produce more collaboration amongst the attendees through the Whiteboard Wall
- Increase awareness about Wireshark tips and tricks.
Riverbed has also added a few things on its own as well. The company has invited John Hollar, CEO of Computer History Museum, to deliver the opening note. The closing keynote is to be delivered by Gerald Combs, the original author of the Wireshark source code. To add more fun to the program, the company and event sponsors have come up with a treasure hunt in the event.
Mr. Gerald Combs, who is also the director of Open Source projects at Riverbed, explained that the conference is aimed at increasing the awareness about packet data analysis. The informal setting makes sure that the interchange of ideas takes place freely and in a more conductive way. He expressed pride in the fact that in the 17 year history of the company Wireshark has evolved considerably, but he did acknowledge the contribution by Open Source communities in accelerating the process.
Riverbed Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:RVBD) closed at $20.99, after losing 0.05% on April 24. The company has 157.78 million shares being traded in the market, with a 52-week range of $16.71-$21.
