Rackspace Hosting, Inc. (NYSE:RAX) has announced the opening of its new data center, to be run in collaboration with Digital Reality Trust, Inc. (NYSE:DLR). The center is located in Crawley, UK. The company also announced the launch of its Content Delivery Network. The new network will be powered by Akamai Technologies.
Akamai and Rackspace have been in a long term relationship, to provide customers with one-click access to CDN services on the Rackspace portal. The portal will help users deliver larger data around the world. High speed data transmission is an important aspect of online networking. As per research, if a webpage does not load in the first 3 seconds, customers tend to abandon their searches and or transactions. However, the Rackspace platform tends to take care of this problem, helping to deliver sites and content faster.
The new facility with DLR is also focused on handling cloud services offered by Rackspace. One of the important things here is that the new facility has been constructed in an environmentally friendly manner. DLR provided the power solutions for the facility, which save up to 80% energy. Whereas, usually this is one of the largest figure in running costs. The usual costs to power such data centers can equal the power requirements of a 1,000 homes.
However, the energy saving technology from DLR makes the entire data center, with 4 suites, to run on just 12 MW of power. The data center will probably add to the efficiency of the fast Rackspace platform. The new CDN system will also provide cost effectiveness to the company’s customer base as well. The businesses making use of the CDN will now be able to expand their presence efficiently, without huge infrastructure investments. With growing collaborations and new products coming out of the pipeline, the company is set for huge growth.
Rackspace Hosting, Inc. (NYSE:RAX) closed at $45.96, after losing 13.5% on May 12. The company has 142.46 million shares being traded in the market, with a 52-week range of $26.24-$56.20.
