Dak Prescott is a private individual by nature but he’s blessed with the ability to play quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, making him a public figure. And those two truths collided earlier this year when his canceled marriage engagement became gossip column fodder.
Prescott addressed the issue for the first time on Thursday and, in typical fashion, declined to reveal everything that happened, including why the engagement to Sarah Jane Ramos was called off and by whom.
But he did show regret that the private situation became so public and added we shouldn’t believe everything we read afterward.

“Yeah, I mean, I don’t necessarily think it was public to me,” Prescott told reporters who cover the team, via the Dallas Morning News.
“Once again, I believe what you take in, what you read, what you look up, you’re doing that to yourself. There were a lot of false narratives out there on both of our sides. That was very unfortunate. Unfortunate for me, but somebody who’s been [dealing with the media] and knows how to [handle] it … And unfortunate for her.
“But it’s kind of the life we live in. Yeah, it was an unfortunate situation for obviously everybody. More importantly, the kids. And so for me, it’s just about making sure I’m there in every which way for them.”
Prescott became engaged to Ramos in October 2024 and the couple welcomed two daughters together and planned an April 2026 wedding in Lake Como, Italy.
The engagement was called off in March 2026, roughly five weeks before the ceremony. A representative for Ramos told People that the split was a mutual decision and the couple remained committed to co-parenting their children, describing both as “heartbroken” by the end of the relationship.

Other reports painted a different picture of what led to the breakup. TMZ reported that the relationship had been “rocky behind the scenes for months” and that it reached a breaking point after a blowup argument during the couple’s joint bachelor and bachelorette trip to the Bahamas.
Who called off the engagement and why was the stuff of subsequent and perhaps unfounded speculation.
Whatever the reasons, it’s obvious Prescott’s focus, aside from playing for the Cowboys and winning, is his children.
Margaret Jane Rose Prescott was born in February 2024. Prescott has said her birth changed his outlook on life, centering him less on himself and more on her.

Aurora Rayne Prescott was born in May 2025. Her middle name is Rayne because that is the quarterback’s legal first name: Rayne Dakota Prescott.
Prescott and his ex-fiancee are co-parenting the girls so they remain a big part of Prescott’s life, including during this Cowboys training camp which they have visited.
“I appreciate them getting a chance to, you know, come to my office or, you know, come out on the football field and just hang for a little bit, even if they don’t fully grasp it,” Prescott said. “They’ll have these memories and stuff like that in the back of their heads.
“And, um, MJ, I mean, she’s, excuse me, the oldest, she’s already, yeah, she enjoys the, the football side of it, saying the number 4, showing it. And then, I think, even just seeing her dad on pictures and in places.”
It is clear that Prescott wants to win for himself, and his teammates. But he wants everyone to understand he also wants to win for his children.
“That’s who I want to win for,” he repeated. “You know, it was for a long time, wanting to win for myself and the approval of people, or to prove myself right. I want those girls to say their dad’s a champion.”
