Paper position Methodology is based on a study on European companies. A position paper analyses the impact made by the digital phenomenon and how it changes the methods of working by affecting employees and how companies communicate with their clients and partners creating new business opportunities. It includes interviews of more than 1,800 company CEOs and managers across five European countries. It was conducted in Europe in the year 2013. Later, it was extended to the U.S. and Asia in 2014 with added interviews. The digital phenomenon has raised the expectations of individuals who want more connectivity, personal attention and interaction in their relationships with companies.
Findings of the study
According to the research, 83% companies in Europe acknowledge that better service to the customer is the key in today’s way of working. Flexible working provides a means to improve the quality of growth of employees, and support productivity and real estate optimization for companies. Home working policy was adopted by 54% of European companies legally. Distance work, also called third place to work is also recognized by companies to accommodate employees. Digital transformation has led to collaboration that has led to an increase in the formation of a chain of suppliers, clients and various partners. Corpoworking is a new practice that consists of calling members of this ecosystem in a dedicated location. Collaboration with other partners is a must and has been recognized by 74% companies.
Practicing of new ways has raised concerns about the security and protection of resources. 63% companies showed their concern over the security issues. 62% companies had already installed a secure mobile solution in 2013 whereas 10% more are planning for the same by the end of 2014. IT managers are responsible for the selection of digital equipment and solutions in 97% of European companies, but business owners are now taking part in the decision-making. The number will go up by 36% in next three years. Role of HR executives has also been recognized as 59% are involved in the decision-making.
