On the Spotlight: BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY), Arch Coal Inc (NYSE:ACI), Vodafone Group Plc (ADR) (NASDAQ:VOD)

Boston, MA 02/06/2014 (wallstreetpr) – BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY): It is reported that potential buyers are waiting to see if BBRY will part with its patents by 2015. It is believed that while the company has put its best foot forward to attain a speedy turnaround, slow progress in this journey might call for need for some more capital than what the company already has. In that case scenario, the company might turn to selling its intellectual properties to raise the needed amount of money. This is the view of some bankers, yet the company through its spokesperson Lisettee Kwong recently said that BBRY has no plans of selling its entire patent portfolio at this time. BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) patents are valued between $200 million and $5 billion depending on various factors.

Arch Coal Inc (NYSE:ACI), like its most other coal company peers, is finding it difficult to post profits nowadays. Factoring in the recently reported fourth quarter, the company has now registered losses in eight consecutive quarters. Unfortunately, the trend could be carried on in the upcoming quarters given that its cost cutting efforts are already finding their floor and that prices of thermal and met coal are not showing signs of improvement. Shares of Arch Coal Inc (NYSE:ACI) traded at the level of $3.92 by bell time after losing 7.33 percent during the regular session Wednesday.

Vodafone Group Plc (ADR) (NASDAQ:VOD)’s efforts to drive growth are falling into fertile soils. The company recently lifted investment into its so-called Project Spring to £7 billion, a scheme that is designed to boost fortune hunting in Europe and emerging markets. Talk about emerging markets and the latest data from Ghana’s National Communications Authority (NCA) show that VOD now controls 14 percent of the country’s telecoms market. That is a significant growth over the previous year and it signals that Vodafone is quickly winning the hearts of Ghanaians. Vodafone Group Plc (ADR) (NASDAQ:VOD) lost 0.73 percent of its market value in Wednesday’s trading to close at $35.40.
