Nokia Corp (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) and VimpelCom Ltd (ADR) (NASDAQ:VIP), a Russian communications and technology firm, have entered into a five year agreement that will see Nokia supply VimpelCom with managed services for its mobile, fixed and transport network operations
Nokia, which has been VimpelCom’s network service manager in Central Russia, will now expend the scoop of its services to managing the telco’s 2G, 3G and 4G networks.nokia will also offer equipment vendors, network management tools, processes as well as software automation. Nokia will carry out field maintenance work in the Central, North Caucasian and Southern and Southern regions of Russia including Moscow.
Through consolidation and transformation of its network operations, VimpelCom stands to benefit from reduced operational and network complexity and decreased time to the market. The company will also be able to cut on its operating costs of operating multiple networks. VimpelCom will in turn improve the quality of over 58 million mobile plus 2.2 million fixed broadband customers in Russia.
Nokia will also supply full network optimization and planning services, offer project management and network implementation services as well as the ongoing support from its delivery hub in Voronezh, Russia. Nokia will use its extensive and understanding of end-to-end service delivery using several technologies and services providers to meet the specific network needs of VimpelCom and offer high quality performance of VimpelCom’s network.
VimpelCom Executive Vice President for Infrastructure Development, Martin Skop said his company’s partnership with Nokia will allow restructuring of VimpelCom’s business operations. He adds that the partnership will enable them improve on their financial performance, keep at par with upcoming global trends as well as enhance technological innovations. Nokia’s smart managed services will also enable VimpelCom to streamline its operations for improved efficiency.
