Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) to Donate $10 Million Towards ‘Upgrade the World’ Program Upon Windows 10 Launch

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is kicking into philanthropic gear with the impending launch of Windows 10. The company vowed to donate $10 million to nonprofit organizations.

The donated amount will be pumped into the Upgrade the World’ Program. This might be Microsoft’s way of trying to let more people know that it is introducing a new version of its operating systems. The company also revealed that it will launch a new digital advertising and TV campaign that will start on July 20 in the United States. The campaign will be extended on a global scale on July 29. The donation is part of a strategic plan also aimed at enhancing the reach that Microsoft will make.

In a way, it is part of the company’s parable showing how much change Microsoft has been able to impact on the world. The Windows 10 operating system is the latest mega upgrade that Microsoft has introduced for PCs and mobile devices. Microsoft clearly has a major unification plan with the new operating system because the company has decided to bring in a new Microsoft branded Edge browser. The company recently wrote off its mobile hardware division that it had acquired from Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK).

All the activities that Microsoft has been up to since the beginning of this year seems to point towards placing more focus on the software aspect of the company. In essence, the company is trying to go back to its roots. This means the company will place less emphasis on hardware. This decision has been met with a lot of question and confusion in the industry especially for the future of the Nokia or otherwise Microsoft branded Lumia phones.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) had announced that it will still handle mobile devices, but they will target specific markets. The Windows 10 OS has created a lot of commotion especially because of its sleek interface and exciting features such as Cortana. It is expected to launch on July 29.
