Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Losing To Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE)? A Question With Many Answers

Boston, MA 08/15/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)‘s shares managed a slight gain on the market on Thursday, edging up 0.43% earlier and 0.14% later in the aftermarket trading. The stock was last seen at $44.33. This year has been mixed for the stock, though it is up more than 18%, challenges have not been lacking, and investors continue to ask more questions than answers can be found. There is a big event going on in Europe, Germany to be clear, and investors are watching the gaming technology event closely and what has surfaced already is that Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) is not giving Microsoft room to breathe.

Sony ahead with sales

Microsoft and Sony launched their improved gaming consoles almost at the same time last year in November. However, Sony has nearly made twice as much PlayStation4 sales as Microsoft has on Xbox One. That not only means unit disparity but financial disparity as well.

As concerns slow Xbox One sales, many answers have been offered and some of them touch on the marketing strategy and cost of the device. To start with, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) started offering Xbox One at a cost that was $100 more expensive than PlayStation4. Analysts say that was one wrong move that although Microsoft has since corrected by pricing its device competitively, has already denied it many marks on the market.

Untapped markets

Nonetheless, that does not mean that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) will forever trail Sony in gaming console sales, at least as far as Xbox One and PlayStation4 goes. Analysts say that investors should not be worried about the dismal performance of Xbox One so far because Microsoft still has 26 countries in which it plans to release the product, and those markets have the potential of making a difference for the company.

Therefore, while Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) may not get over Sony today or tomorrow morning, it will surely catch up with PlayStation4 if it makes a successful launch in the uncaptured markets.
