Microbot Medical Inc (NASDAQ:MBOT) has announced that it has been awarded a patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for its device used to prevent shunt stenosis.

The company revealed that the USPTO awarded it with the patent number 9,675,748 for the device which further strengthens its IP portfolio. In addition to the new patent, Microbot Medical also reported a new filing with the USPTO, this time a Continuation Application to further enhance and establish its innovative solutions for combating the medical condition. The new patent covers methods and systems designed to reduce venous stenosis which is related to the use of hemodialysis shunts.

“Expanding and protecting our innovative technology platforms is one of the main focus areas of the Company, especially as we expect significant milestones in the coming months for our initial Self Cleaning Shunt™ product,” stated Microbot Medical’s chairman and CEO, Harel Gadot.

The CEO also pointed out that the company’s innovative technology platforms place the company at a better position to take advantage of the lucrative opportunities in the market. Gadot believes that the technologies that Microbot Medical owns have a significant lead in the micro-robotics curve. Additionally, the revenue from the company’s recently concluded equity offering provide the resources necessary for taking advantages of the market opportunities. It will also provide a significant boost to the firm’s unique core strengths that will be used to venture into other growth prospects in the market.

As for the newly patented device, it involves a clearing device that is introduced into the first bore just as the dialyzed blood is being pumped into the blood vessel via a second bore. The clearing device may also be treated as a passive device that is pushed down the blood vessel by the flow of blood. Alternatively, it could be an autonomous crawling device based on sequentially inflatable chambers.

Microbot Medical stock closed the latest trading session on Thursday at $1.52 after a 2.70 percent gain from the previous close.
