Boston, MA 10/01/2014 (wallstreetpr) – The Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC) selected the next-generation advanced Ethernet solutions of Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. (NASDAQ:MLNX) to upgrade and expand the STFC’s JASMIN super-data-cluster (JASMIN system).
JASMIN system
STFC, a European largest research organization, use JASMIN system to provide a unique computational infrastructure for environmental data analysis. The UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) funded for the development of JASMIN super-data-cluster to enhance the research capabilities for the atmospheric science and earth observation communities.
So, the association with Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. (NASDAQ:MLNX)’s technology solutions will provide a non-blocking and high throughput processing at low latency and low cost to facilitate the complex simulation process for environmental data.
Integration advantage
Mellanox’s solution integrates the LinkX cables, ConnectX-3 Pro adapters, and SwitchX-2 10/40/56Gb Ethernet switches with JASMIN super-data-cluster through a Virtual Modular Switch (VMS) mode. The VMS architecture forms the basis for the expansion of the JASMIN’s Phase 2 network and will provide a non-blocking ratio of 1:1.
The facility will allocate the virtual machines by utilizing the support of ConnectX-3 Pro adapters (VXLAN). The Phase 2 upgrade of JASMIN will now connect 3,000 computers in a non-blocking network topology and also provide additional 7 Petabytes of disk storage.
At the same time, Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. (NASDAQ:MLNX)’s end-to-end Ethernet interconnect will upgrade the existing Phase 1 network of JASMIN by leveraging the advantage of high-port densities switches. It speeds up the non-blocking network process to a level of 56Gb/s.
Mellanox’s Vice President, Marketing, Gilad Shainer said the Company’s high-performance infrastructure will allow JASMIN to deliver existing as well as future needs of STFC and NERC science.
It will improve the efficiency of the data centers with high throughput processing and increase the performance of unlocking systems at low latency. The VXLAN support and an upgraded network will be available to JASMIN in the third quarter of 2014.
