Boston, MA 04/29/2014 (wallstreetpr) – A handicapped man in a wheelchair who employs a service dog said that he had beentaunted and humiliated on a couple of occasions when he attempted to place an order inside a McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD)‘s outlet in Minneapolis, as mentioned in a federal lawsuit.
Robert Mingo, 52, who suffers from chronic back ailment and muscular dystrophy, alleged that he’dbeen met with hostility during the two separate visits he’d made to the McDonald’s in August 2012 and May 2013, according to the lawsuit, which was filed lastTuesday, April 22, 2014.
The Premise
Mingo is suing the proprietor of the franchise in addition to the global corporation in federal court and is seeking stipulated damages and requirements that the company’s employees be familiarized with the disabilities act.
The lawsuit acknowledges that Mingo was eventuallycatered to on both visits, though, on the second visit, he was deprived of the right to eat within the premises of the restaurant, by a manager who asserted that “hewas a law” — a comment that allegedly incited laughter from customers nearby.
Mingo’s lawsuit states that, in August 2012, he was told at the counter that his service dog was the reason as to why he was being prevented from being served. Consequently, he wheeled himself up to the drive-through window, where the same employee said that they did not serve those “things” in the drive-through – a blatant reference to his wheelchair.
Though he was eventually permitted to purchase food, he was told that he had been barred from returning to that particular restaurant.
What Persisted A Year Later
Mingo stated in his suit that, in May 2013, he paid a visit to the same restaurant, where his order had initially been taken without facing any hassles. But then the manager proceeded to ask him for documentation pertaining to his service dog, to which Mingo responded that his wheelchair should suffice. Once again, he hadbeen ordered to leave.
McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD)’s owner, Tim Baylor, stated to a news agency that he follows up complaints like this seriously and strives to do his best to provide a brilliant customer experience to every customer who avails their services.
