Market Recap: Cloud Peak Energy Inc. (NYSE:CLD), Senomyx Inc. (NASDAQ:SNMX), Avnet, Inc. (NYSE:AVT)

Boston, MA 04/03/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Cloud Peak Energy Inc. (NYSE:CLD) had its shares hitting high in the last session with increasing excitement in the coal market. Analysts are looking at a more robust China economy which should create big demand for coal given that the country is the biggest consumer of coal. Also, it seems investors like the idea that CLD is one of the few coal companies making profits currently. That the company is raking in profits but not paying dividend suggests that the management has its eyes set on the future, which means that shoring up of the balance sheet is presently in the center stage. Although no dividends have been forthcoming from Cloud Peak Energy Inc. (NYSE:CLD), the attractive stock price performance offers opportunity for investors to make gains. And hopefully, once things are put in order, it will not be long before a dividend regime is put in place, although the management says there are no immediate plans for such.

Since having its latest taste enhancer called Sweetmyx labled GRAS (Generally Reconginzed As Safe), shares of Senomyx Inc. (NASDAQ:SNMX) have not looked back. The flavor enhancer has a big market opportunity in that it can be used in drinks and food. And it replaces the use of conventional sugar sweeteners which have caused safety issues among consumers. The sale of such products as carbonated drinks have been seen falling in major markets such as U.S. were consumers have become more concerned with what they eat and drink due to risks of obesity and such. However, Senomyx’s flavor enhancer offers alternative and already Sweetmyx has obtained acceptance of Pepsi under exclusive rights for use in non-alcoholic beverages. And many more food and drink manufactures are expected to come knocking for Sweetmyx. Thus, investors are betting big in Senomyx Inc. (NASDAQ:SNMX) due to the prospects presented by Sweetmyx.

Shares of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE:AVT) jumped to a new 52-week high in the last session on solid volume. The gain came on the back of news that the company received recognition in the InformationWeek Elite 100. The list recognizes top technology innovators. The recognition has the impact of helping the company win more major customers in the industry it serves.
