Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE:LVLT) Names New Board Chairman

Boston, MA 05/27/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE:LVLT) moved to put its house in order last week by naming a longtime board member James O. Ellis, Jr., its new Chairman of the Board. Mr. Ellis was named to replace Walter Scott, Jr. after a Board of Directors meeting last week.

Mr. Ellis is not a new face at Level 3. He is also not new to leading complex technology focused organizations as Level 3. He has been a board member of Level 3’s Board of Directors since 2005. His board membership tenure saw him serve as chairman of the Board’s Security Committee and Classified Business. He also has widespread experience and expertise in matters technology owing to his stint at various U.S. defense organizations.

Most Welcomed Aboard

The appointed of Mr. Ellis as the new chairman of Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE:LVLT) was greeted with excitement in the company’s management team. The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Jeff Storey, particularly said he expects the company to continue its business growth under the chairmanship of Mr. Ellis.

He noted that Mr. Ellis has more than 40 years of experience in leading or managing technologies akin of what Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE:LVLT) operators. Ellis was a commander of the U.S. Strategic Command in Nebraska, where among other duties, he had global responsibilities in issues touching on space operations and integrated missile defense.

Moving To The Next Level

The appointment of Mr. Ellis to the board chairmanship comes at a time when Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE:LVLT) is seeking to move its business to the next level. The company is in pursuit of an expanded market share and improvement in the bottom-line.

The company recently complained about Internet Service Providers in U.S. and Europe that are making its work of connecting people difficult. Although the company did not mention specific providers that it believes are curbing Internet speeds around its connections, Level 3 intends to address the issues so that it can give its customers the best connection they deserve.

Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE:LVLT) earned 47 cents per share in 1Q2014, beating the consensus estimate of 28 cents. Its revenue also exceeded expectation to come in at $1.61 million against the consensus estimate of $1.59 million.
