Leon Slater has big night at TNA Lockdown, challenges Nic Nemeth for world title at Bound for Glory

Leon Slater had a big night in many ways on Sunday at Total Nonstop Action Wrestling’s (TNA) Lockdown pay-per-view.

Slater started the night with a huge match against Cedric Alexander for the TNA X Division Championship. Slater, essentially, put his legacy on the line agreeing to give up his name in the TNA history books if he lost the match.

With every match on the Lockdown main card being in a steel cage, Slater used that to his advantage. He climbed to the middle of the cage, at one point, and hit a flying elbow drop. While Alexander did the best he could to keep Slater grounded, the young British star was just too much.

Slater used Alexander’s finishing move, the Lumbar Check, on him three times before hitting a 450 swanton from the top rope. He pinned Alexander and burst into tears as he realized he was the X Division champion once again.

But, as Slater later joked, his title reign quickly came to an end later in the night.

Slater stepped into the ring following Nic and Ryan Nemeth’s victory over The Hardys to capture the TNA World Tag Team Championship. He grabbed the microphone and told Nic Nemeth he was cashing in his Option C opportunity to face Nemeth for his TNA World Championship.

Option C allows Slater to cash-in the X Division Championship for a shot at the world title. It meant that Slater was no longer the X Division champion.

Nemeth and Slater will compete for the TNA World Championship at Bound For Glory on Oct. 11 in Tampa, Florida.
