IRS Targeting Tea Party Groups And Patriots

Boston, MA 05/13/2013 (wallstreetpr) – The attempts by officials of the Internal Revenue Service to single out and target groups which were promoting limited government had been highly condemned at all political levels. Information of this form of spying such groups had been known to the top officials of the IRS as early as June, 2011.

Targeting Tea Party Groups

The Internal Revenue Service had been attaching special attention to groups that applied for nonprofit status especially if they had “Tea Party” or “Patriots” in their group names. This importance was due to the objective of such parties or groups to fight against tax and thereby career officials at the IRS were appointed for spying such groups and their members.

Though the Internal Revenue Commissioner, Douglas Shulman, in March 2012 ascertained that there was no such singling out or targeting of groups based on their political objectives, the director of exempt organizations, Louis Lerner, finally acknowledged on May, 10 that such spying was indeed being carried out. The organization, however, upheld it March statement saying that such specific details of targeting were unknown to the officials then.

Aggressive Response Sought

The Anti Tax Tea Party Groups were formed shortly after Barack Obama assumed position as President in 2009 and were responsible for the Republicans to fuel gains and get control of the White House in midterm elections of 2010. Following the acceptance by the Director that spying had occurred, the Tea Party Groups are now demanding more aggressive response from the administration towards such an act.

Senator Susan Collins had condemned that such targeting would contribute to the distrust of American people in the government. Rejecting the apology sought by the Director, leader of one such Tea Party Groups condemned the deliberate targeting and harassment of such groups and that it would result in reaching a new low in illegal activity and outreach.
